I’ve managed to become more aware of when this happens, so I can curb the impulse a bit. I’m actually getting better at regulating myself and trying to push my drive into helpful things beyond planning (and getting so wrapped up in planning that I burn myself out before I’ve actually done much).

Yet, one thing that I’ve struggled with is being so enthusiastic to start a new journey that I don’t leave wiggle room in case things don’t go right, or take longer than planned, or I’m ill and can’t do it… then I fall behind and get totally discouraged. I’ve had this derail my fitness efforts dozens of times. And this week, I had a cushion to soften the blow. I need days NOT planned in order to recharge mentally and sometimes physically. At least 1 day off a week won’t hurt, even with my most ambitious goals. If I REALLY want to do the exercise that day, I can… I’ll just have it take the place in advance of another day where maybe I don’t feel so well or suddenly (like yesterday) I end up having to work an open to close because folks are sick. Like swapping shifts. Build up those “sick days” for when you need them, then get right back to it.

It’s getting easier each time. Not totally easy by any stretch (I still fret about any setback), but I’m learning to calm down and accept the delays for what they are, and focus on what I can control.

Be well.
